My first image since turning 80! North America & Pelican

#1

Post by STEVE333 »

My old laptop was dying, so, had to purchase a new one and transfer all the files. Then had to install PixInsight, APT, PHD2, etc. Then had to install all the drivers so that the AP equipment would work with ASCOM and APT. I was a bit worried, but, indoor testing showed that all has been working since my birthday in mid July. However, since that time there has not been a cloudless and fogless night until two nights ago. The fog stayed away long enough to capture 3 hours of images. All of the data was Ha.

The image below is the result of that imaging.

18 x 600 sec (Total exposure 3 hrs) lights, 30 Dark Flats, 30 flats, 24 x 600 sec Darks

Image capture and control using APT. Guided with PHD2. All processing in PixInsight.

WO Star 71 telescope, ASI1600MM cooled camera (-15C), 3nm Ha filter.

Hope to get at least some O3 and possibly some S2 data if skies cooperate.

Thanks for looking.

Good to hear that 80 doesn't slow down the imaging, from someone rapidly approaching. Also a dying laptop, but resisting the urge to get a new one.

Great image,

Awesome Steve!

Both your fine NGC700 image and turning 80!

Congratulations on both and getting the new laptop set up.
Lots and lots of applications to configure. Hopefully, you had some backup configuration files or notes to help.

Happy imaging sir!

Thanks all for the encouraging comments. I don't like being 80, but, it beats the alternative!

The Clear Sky Chart predicts there will be no clouds tomorrow night, so, I might be able to capture some Oiii data if the fog cooperates and then I could make an HOO image. Getting Sii data would be a nice bonus!

As I am getting older I find stamina and recuperation are the biggest problems. It's still pretty easy to carry the equipment out and bring it back in. But, after staying up until 2AM the other day it has taken a few days to "recover". However, I still love this hobby and hope to keep learning and improving.

Cool image Steve! Looking forward to seeing it when you get the rest of it. Would be interested in seeing the other two sequences in black and white as well, just to see how they differ.
Congrats on 80! :)

Congrats on 80! :)

Thanks Bill - I will try to remember to post the black and white images as well as the HOO (or SHO if I'm lucky enough to capture the Sii!). At 80 there are no guarantees on memory related tasks - chuckles
