This image field is infrequently imaged, particularly when compared with the object just to the north - the Orion Nebula. Still, this image shows an active star forming region and activity. The data was difficult - there were star flare artifacts from the nearby bright stars right off the image field (Hatysa just north and 39 Ori, 29 Ori, and Rigel in a line to the west).
The reflection nebula,
NGC 1999, is the dominant object - also known as vdB 46 (and other designations). ISM object,
IC 430, and molecular cloud, LDN 1641, are also in this image. There are a number of Herbig-Haro objects in this field - too many to annotate them all but a few of the more significant ones are annotated.
