This image field is infrequently imaged, particularly when compared with the object just to the north - the Orion Nebula. Still, this image shows an active star forming region and activity. The data was difficult - there were star flare artifacts from the nearby bright stars right off the image field (Hatysa just north and 39 Ori, 29 Ori, and Rigel in a line to the west).
The reflection nebula,
NGC 1999, is the dominant object - also known as vdB 46 (and other designations). ISM object,
IC 430, and molecular cloud, LDN 1641, are also in this image. There are a number of Herbig-Haro objects in this field - too many to annotate them all but a few of the more significant ones are annotated.
Image and details can be accessed at the link below (or by clicking on the NGC1999 / vdB46 thumbnail below). The annotated image (which shows objects and info) has a link below but it can also be accessed from the main image webpage as well. Full size image can also be accessed from the image webpage and has an image scale of 1.73 arcsec/pixel.
