Swan and Eagle RGBHa

#1

Post by sdbodin »

Finally got enough exposures to put together a full color plus Ha shot of M16/17 region with my new Rokinon 135. Posted the starless Ha a couple weeks back and had a preliminary RGB, but re-shot that with the lens at the correct bfl and at f2.8 to really sharpen up the edges. Bright qtr moon somewhat interfered with the color capture, but came out OK. The prominent dark nebulae to the south of the 'belly-up' swan are B92 and 93 and to the east the large one is B312.
swan_eagle_135f28rokrawb.jpg
Specifics, Rokinon 135mm f2 at f2.0 for 29min of Ha, at f2.8 for 20/1min RGB w/UV/IR filter, no darks, flats, bias, guiding, wishful thinking. Final image about 40% full size, just edge cropped.

Clear skies,
Steve

Nice wide field view Steve. Did you use your ASI1600?

The image looks sharp with nice contrast. I am thinking of breaking out my Sigma 150mm and running my ASI1600 or ASI294 on it. Id like to be able to capture similar detail as you.

Yes the ASI1600MC-cool OSC. I think a 294 would also be very good, maybe better since it did replace the 1600 in the ZWO line-up, only slightly larger pixels.

Thanks,
Steve

Thanks Steve. Actually, ZWO has unlocked the ASI294 so it is a 44 Mpix camera (at 1x1 bin unlocked) with pixel of 2.315 (smaller than the ASI1600 3.8). That's why I'm kinda thinking of using it instead of the ASI1600. It will depend on the optical quality of the lens for that resolution going forward.
