LBN 534 / vdB 158

This image field is dominated by the reflection nebula LBN 534. This is one of those LBN nebulae designated (by Vizier/Simbad) as reflection rather than HII. vdB 158 is located in the lower portion of LBN 534. There are also several molecular clouds within LBN 534 as cataloged in the Planck Catalogue of Galactic Cold Clumps (PGCC). LBN 534 is about 1,400 light years distant and, by my calculation, stretches about 36 light year in its "hockey stick" length.

There is the small planetary nebula (PK 110-12 1) located in the bottom central portion of the full FOV, (lower left in the vdB 158 crop below). There are three pretty noticeable background galaxies in this field (ranging from 261 to 413 million light years). There are also a number of QSO's in this field - but none are visible in this image (or the annotated image) since I deliberately gave the stars in this field a lite stretch so as to not overwhelm.

I saw this open cluster in my image Simbad List but I didn't go any further with research on it and so I didn't annotate it. Apparently in their original 1969 paper (Aveni and Hunter), the cluster had 28 members. Seems additional study since then has increased its membership and angular size. That's what I like about this pastime - seems there is always an opportunity to learn new things.
