Milky Way 6/11/21

This is my rig here (in the Bahamas) for the last two days. It’s about as Rube Goldberg as it gets, but works for me. It was all I could fit in the luggage, mini tripod, camera, etc. strapped to a local golf cart. I have named it the GTC Sky Rover…also known as “Luminosity”.

Was much clearer last night at a very dark spot. Dark Sky databases show it at Bortle 2 with an SQM of 21.8 . Was the first time I have ever seen the Milky Way horizon to horizon, quite a breathtaking view!

This image is from 3:09 AM, single exposure at 25 sec, ISO 3200, Nikon D5600, 10mm lens, f/2.8. Edited with Apple Edit. When I return I will try and stack the series and see what else I can do.

Yes, was in the Bahamas for a week or so. Returned back today. Took a number of days there to find the good spot and wait for good weather. Last night was quite good with clear sky for hours. With only a camera and tripod somewhat limited in what I could do, and process afterwards with just an iPad. Hope to take a second look this week with the few hundred exposures I got

Thanks for sharing your experiences there in the Bahamas. I can't it's still there even see the Milky Way at my location, so, it's nice to know it's still there Nice full FOV image with lots of stuff in there. Look forward to seeing what you can do with this now that you are back home. Hope you had a good time.
