Post by Hondo »

Greetings. Here is a recent pic. After using a CMOS camera, QHY183M, for about a year I have come to the conclusion that I like using my trusty Atik 383L even more. Thanks for looking.

Imaged on 25 Apr and 20 May 21
VRC-8 RC with CCDT67 reducer at 1252 mm focal length at f/6 atop a CEM60 and Atik 383L+ (-10C)
Captured with SGP
L: 20x120 Bin 1x1
RGB: 40x30 each Bin 2x2
100 mins total
DSS (64 Bit)
Star Tools 1.7
PS

Beautiful image. Lots of stars and great detail. Even managed to pull out IC 4617.

Would you care to share your reason(s) for liking the Atik 383L over the QHY183M?

Thanks. The 183 is a fine camera but I found that I had to do a lot more fiddling to get nice images. Between gains and offsets to using dark flats and swamping the read noise and not blowing out the stars it just seemed like a lot more fuss. With my 383L I take a bunch of subs throw them in DSS with the appropriate calibration frames, process it in Star Tools and I get a picture that I am proud of. Maybe I am just too old school.

Hi Scott. A fantastic M13 globular cluster image in LRGB. Excellent contrast, details, and it looks like white diamonds and golden sapphires on black velvet. Thanks for sharing this great work with us Scott, and congratulations on winning the TSS APOD Award today.
