I originally shot this image (Messier 27) the "Dumbbell Nebula", in November. I didn't like the processing job I did at the time (that's why you keep old data!). These were 50x 90 seconds using my 6" Reflector/AVX combo and Canon T6 DSLR. Stacked in DSS and processed in Gimp.

Hi Ron, it's a great image. I remember how when I was 12 I discovered a small disk of light with my first pair of 7x50s. I did have star maps though, in my Sir Patrick Moore book, and that told me it was M27. I felt I had done an awesome discovery.

I can only hope you feel as good about winning today's APOD!

Great image Ron, fantastic. As a beginning AP'er (but experienced observer) I'd love to be able to pull off something like this. Congrats on the APOD for today.

Spending obscene amounts of money building a big fracking solar telescope.
