jon.s wrote: Sun Apr 18, 2021 8:14 pm Beautiful shot Graeme! Love the details in the spiral arm! And congrats for the APOD!

A question for you - did you shoot at the native f/10? 120 sec subs sound short for f/10 ...

Well spotted! The whole thing was a bit experimental. The focal length was unchanged at f10 2350mm. I thought it would be interesting to try a shorter exposure with a higher gain. The unity gain for the camera is 100, I usually use 125 but tweaked it up to 180 for this one. The histogram was off the left side but the image is slightly dark. Perhaps 180 or 240 exposure and 180 gain will be the next one to try.

Regards

Graeme
Graeme could you not use offset to move the histogram along and avoid dark clipping?
Cheers,

Tony.

Good shout Tony. I've yet to play with the offset, it's sat at default since I bought the camera. I'll try a tweak!

Graeme

That makes sense. Thanks for the info! I'm thinking some day I'd love to get a C8 for more reach for the galaxy season, so I'm interested in how other folks are using similar equipment.
