This open cluster and reflection nebula - popularly known as the Cosmic Rosebud. It is shown here in a somewhat wider field than it is usually seen in order to show some of its cosmic neighbors - notably the open cluster
NGC 7142 and nearby dark nebulae. It is also known as or associated with vdB 146, Ced 196, LBN 497, [RK65] 112 and 110.
This seems to be a well studied object with several Herbig-Haro, Red Nebulous Object, and other structure. There are several background galaxies but only one has an estimated distance - 2MFGC 16419 at 380 million light years.
NGC 7129 and
NGC 7142 are 3,300 and 3,980 light years distant respectively.

Interestingly, I imaged this object very early on in my astronomy experience - way back in 2004. This image has been moved to my Archives. Basically, I have saved every photographic observation I have evere made. I've changed a lot in equipment and experience in the last 17 years - its kinda funny to look at this image and remember way back when. Link to it is below.
