Summer Milky Way

I love the way some nightscape astrophotographers (mainly on Facebook Nightscape groups, not here on TSS) start calling, "the end of the Milky Way season" or "last Milky Way shot until next Winter." I see these posts declaring the end of the season start appearing around August each year despite the fact that the galactic core can be photographed quite well until middish November.

But of course, no sooner is the Scorpius Sagittarius core ensconsed behind the Sun, than the Summer Milky Way comes a calling. There are many great though lesser-known parts of the MW visible throughout the year. You just have to get out and look for them. This photograph was taken last night showing the Milky Way from Monoceros and Canis Major through to Centaurus. The Gum nebula is the extensive nebula at the centre of picture.

Yes, summer to you invisible to me, except in memory. I never tire of remembering the 'Clouds' floating near the pole and of the 'Coal Sack" and Crux, Canopus and our nearest neighbor.
