I just managed to see the conjunction on the 19th from the bedroom window and it was higher than I expected so last night I set up to try and get an image but was foiled by a greenhouse! So I captured some lunar images, because it was there. Then I grabbed some captures of Brett's Carbon Stars from the
November Challenge, the December targets were still too low that early in the evening!
Then I looked through all the images that have been posted in the Deep Sky Objects forum for a likely candidate and came across the Elephant Trunk Nebula.
I pulled the coordinates from Stellarium into the
NINA framing wizard and plate solved it, there on the screen after just the second image! I've been messing with the
NINA Auto Focus routine recently and it seems to be working ok now! So I set up a capturing sequence and set it off.
30 x 240 second lights at 125 gain -10°C. Lost the connection to the mount during the last capture.
But was still able to get a sequence of 10 x darks and then used the Flat Wizard to get 20 x flats, 20 x dark flats.
24 usable light frames stacked in Deep Sky Stacker. .fit file processed in
Gimp.

Graeme
