M78 LRGB

Here's a quick shot of M78....not a lot of data (thanks to the weather) but there's 15 each RGB @300s and 45 L @300s.

I tried this target once with my dslr and was disappointed with the results.

Jim's comment surprised me. I have not tried this using a DSLR but just eyeballing Tom's image, the range of colour looks like it should be in range of an unmodded DSLR. Just for interest, I will give it a go over the summer and see if I have similar difficulties to Jim.

In my Bortle 7-8 skies without a lp filter, I had a rough looking result for just under 3 hours of integration. Here is my image.

Perhaps longer integration and better processing would help a lot. The basis is there. I need to give it another go. Thanks!

Bortle 7-8 skies! Probably not the DSLR spectral response then. ;-)

I wouldn't call your result disappointing if you took it in those skies. I'd call it remarkable given the conditions.

Nice image, Tom. Congrats on the APOD. I tried this last year and like Jim had to fight Bortle 7-8 skies. I'm hoping to head out to the desert in Jan and think this will be on my list. I love reflection nebula!
