HaRGB image, using new Ha data from last night, and RGB data from 2017. I did a lot of work to control the bright star, and I am quite happy with how it turned out. I am less happy with the colour fringing on the smaller stars. There could be a reprocess in the works.

I have a stupid question for you? What is the benefit of doing the RGB at Bin2x2 with an image like this? I've always done my images at Bin1

The benefit is greater sensitivity, which means shorter exposures. All the detail in the image comes from the luminance layer, which is Ha in this case. The colour data contributes nothing towards detail. Because we don't see detail in colour, we don't notice the lower resolution in the colour data. Resolution is the job of the luminance layer. With the settings I use, I can shoot my colour frames in 40% of the time I would normally use at 1x1 binning, giving me more session time for the important luminance data.

Binning is not effective on OSC cameras, and only works in hardware if the sensor is a CCD. CMOS cameras have to do their binning in software, which is less effective.
