AP Processing Challenge

California Dreamin'

#1

Post by starfield »

Had to make an unplanned trip this week to the SF Bay Area. Since my Dad loves astronomy I brought my scope along. After spending 8 hours driving to get up here, I decided that it was only fitting to see if I could grab the California Nebula. This thing is big - I ended up shooting this as a 2 panel mosaic. Each panel was built from 26 subs @ 240s, 120g, using L-Enhance filter.
If weather cooperates hope to capture some RGB stars. I processed each panel separately in Startools and then merged them in Photoshop. To get the panels to match better, I selected the same AutoFocus Region of Interest in each panel.

I love the detail and the (dreamy) color. And, yes, it certainly is BIG. They don't call it Califonia for nothing.

Really good catch of this nebula. I spend some time California dreamin’, I’ve had a number of vacations there & I’m smitten.
Need to get back to Yosemite for some dark skies :sprefac:
