Good to be back! Heart Nebula - SHO (23hrs)

#1

Post by depratnt »

Hi Everyone!

I have sure missed posting on this forum. For whatever reason, it seemed I was locked out from posting anything on the forum at all. There was little "lock" symbol on the forum Icons preventing me from making any posts at all. I tried a few times to get in contact about the issue but had no success. I decided to check the forum again today (thanks to Steve King) and it looks like I can make a post!

It has been over a year since I have made a post unfortunately but I am very happy to be back. Everyone who moved from Astronomyforum to here were so great to talk to and share photos with. This forum has always reigned supreme in my opinion so it was a bit of a bummer.

As my first post back, I just wanted to share my most recent project! I have been working at High Point Scientific doing Tech-Support since January and they sent me this little scope for testing, The Apertura 60mm EDR. This little scope has been so much fun to use. I usually go for the smaller targets hitting them with longer focal length scopes so working at 360mm was quite awesome!

I gathered a total of 23 hours on the Heart Nebula using Astrodon 3nm Ha, Oiii, Sii filters. I really hope you all enjoy and I really, really look forward to being apart of the forum again :)

Equipment:
Cem60
asi1600mm-p
Apertura 60EDR
Astrodon LRGB
Bortle 8
23 total hrs (11ha, 7oii, 5sii)

Awesome photo...

Great to have you back posting here. Your Youtube videos on SHO processing have been very helpful to me and I've seen your many posts in the astrophotography FB group.

I was just asking another member about the Apertura 6" Astrograph, but he wasn't familiar with them.

The Apertura 60mm EDR doublet looks very interesting. I've been searching for something with a wider FOV.

Thank you! I have not personally used this astrograph but it is one that I hope to in the near future! You will definitely need a coma corrector like the Baader MPCC or something similar. The 8" Quattro with the Sky Watcher Coma correct would be the one that I go with if your mount can support it!

The Apetura 60edr is a great doublet that is for sure. FPL-53 glass and it can be paired with the Starizona APEX .65 reducer bring it down to 234mm at f/3.9!

I plan on doing this in the future for a fast, widefield imaging rig. Perfectly paired with the asi183!

I have a .8 Orion reducer that should work with it.

Did you use their field flattener?

I do use the dedicated flattener. I am not sure if the Orion l8 will work. You may be able to slide it into the 2" brass compression ring that comes with the 60EDR. Additionally, you may be able to thread it in if its has m54 threads but I do not believe it does. Apertura is coming out with a dedicated .8 reducer at some point but I am not sure when that may be.

Teagan - some of the forums are locked. The "Astrophotography Photos" forum is one example. The idea is that posters will select from one of the sub-categories underneath that is appropriate for the image being posted. Also there is no "New Thread" option on the Astrophotography forum itself. It just provides a way to access all posts under all the sub-categories.

AFAIK there is no reason for any of the aavilable fora to be locked to you or anyone else.

It could have been my own fault in not knowing how to navigate properly. If so.. WHAT AN IDIOT I AM! Missed out for nothing! Thank you for the information though. Happy that I can resume my mornings with coffee and a good couple forum post reads, especially in the visual observation sub forum. Those are just a treat :)

Hi Teagan. Wow, this is a superb Heart Nebula image in SHO NB light. You really pulled out a lot of nebulosity details and beautiful colors in those 23 hours of data with the Apertura 60EDR scope in this capture. Thanks for sharing a great view with us Teagan, welcome back, and congratulations on winning the TSS APOS Award today.

First, welcome back. You have been missed.

Beautiful colors in this one Teagan and I like how you have controlled the stars. The long total exposure certainly shows in the clean background. Well done.
