IC 1396 - a little new data & a little reprocess

#1

Post by bradleybcraig »

Greetings!

So I am starting to shoot some Orion area mosaic frames that I can't start until 2am so last night I was able to image and from around 8pm to 1:30am I shot some Ha data with my 3nm filter and the WO 71mm. I managed 17 subs and this morning I processed them to see what I had. I had been planning to capture Sii and Oiii as well as filler between dusk and when I can hit my Orion target. However this morning I started thinking and I have some old narrow band data I captured for a 4 panel mosaic back in 2016. I had different narrow band filters then that are wider than my current 3nm filters. I decided to take the data for Sii and Oiii on two of the panels, create the mosaic of those 2 channels and then align them to my new Ha data.

So I managed to get this final image. I am going to do another post in Image Processing with some more details about what I did and again showing the possibilities with separate color and luminance processing.

Thanks for looking!!

Wow, Brad. That is beautiful. I especially like the way the "rusty" colors contrasts with the blue regions.
