NGC281 Pacman Nebula

Continuing to work through my data from the week-end.

This was from my venerable old 8"LX200 GPS on its wedge with my EOS1100Da
119X180s, ISO800
Stars are a bit bloated so i need to look into dealing with that and its cropped fairly tight because i cant seem to resolve my Coma problem (tried collimation and FR spacing but no real improvement

Yeah, but the details in the nebula are quite good.

Yes I'm pretty much decided to take it. I find it a good fit with how I think and work. Despite my old processing computer it seems to work fairly quickly on most steps although preprocessing and EZ Denoise gives me time to go off and make a cup of tea!

But what I'm learning from the above and my last heart nebula is that I should not try to do everything available at this early stage as it can lead to an over processed feel. On the pacman I seperated out luminance, did deconvolution on it and put it back. And the stars just don't look right. Too stark and with a faint halo. I need to take time to get better with some specific processes to ensure that they improve rather than detract

But it is extremely powerful software and fits with my ways so yes, time to pay up!

Have you had a clear sky to try the 533 yet? I'm really looking forward to your first light with it.

Hi David,

PI has worked well for you. I will have to look at it sometime after I get things rolling with the new camera.

No first light yet. Hopefully within the coming week I will get a chance. Initially, I just want to get focus right and try a plate solve. Then take a few random shots just to get an idea on the histogram and exposure. FITS files are are new animal entirely and look to be quite interesting.
I’ll let you know.
