The Heart Nebula in SHO

Post by TheButcher »

Hey all,

Here is the Heart Nebula in SHO (Hubble Pallet). It was Clear skies for 3 nights this past weekend and about a half-moon was out. I guess you can't have it all :) But Thank God for NB filters!

Stellarvue SVX080T-R
Stellarvue SFFX-1
iOptron CEM70 mount
1600mm Pro
ZWO 290mm with ZWO Mini F4 Guide scope
Astronomik 6nm Ha/Oiii/Sii

40 (5 Min) Gain 150/offset 50 - Oiii
45 (10 min) Gain 200/offset 50 - HA
35 (10 min) Gain 200/offset 50 S II
(About 16 Total hours of Integration)

40 Darks for HA
50 Darks for Oiii
75 Flats for each filter

Captured with SGPRO then off to DSS then off to Photoshop CC for processing

Thx for looking :)

That's a beauty. You must be happy with this outcome. NB is such a wondeful option for those of us with LP problems.

Cheers,

Awesome capture

Do you recommend the Astronomic filters? I am finally going to part with my money and buy NB filters this month and start capturing with the 1600MM

Thx guys :)

I like the Astronomik filters, but they're the only filters I have used so I really can't make a comparison amongst others. When I bought them at HPS, the person that recommended them to me and uses the same ones. I wish I could help you more :)

VERY NICE IMAGE!! I was wondering how you determined your gain and offset? I’m just getting started with a 6200mm....gain only goes up to 100 and offset to 200 and there’s a USB setting (which I have no idea what it does) CMOS is soooo much different than CCD!
Great 👍🏻 Job!!

Thanks Tom :) For the gain and offset I go by a guide that Steve333 made up with the ADU reading and gain/offset numbers (I don't know where the post is, but if Steve333 could post it?) But with your 6200mm The gain is different and not sure what the default offset is or if it is locked by ZWO which they did for the 1600mm-p But I use 50 for the offeset which is locked (but can be adjusted in some programs I think) It depends if you are you using the ZWO driver or Ascom driver to connect the camera. At least I think lol

So I would not know with the 6200 since it has different Gain and offset settings then the 1600mm-P.

But I do know that the 1600mm can be set at 300 gain and has offset at 50 to achieve the Lowest read noise, and A 0 gain with 50 offset is best for the Dynamic range. Then unity gain is set at 139 for 1600mm and 50 offset.

Hopefully, someone can chime in on here for that?

Thx Ozzy :)

Also one of the best tools in photoshop which I use the most besides levels and curves, is the "Camera Raw Filter" If you own the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, they have "Camera Raw filter" which offers great control over the colors/channels and everything with a separate preview window. In photoshop it is under filters. And the new version offers so much more then the older version for control but the previous version was still great.

So not sure if it is a separate purchase in addition to PhotoshopCC or comes with the new version of PhotoshopCC with subscription.

I'm just headed out of town. I'll look into this when I return Sunday afternoon. However, not sure how much help I will be because of the difference in the Gain settings between the two cameras.

I can say that I run "Unity Gain" for the NB filters and I use the lowest Gain for the LRGB filters. I use Offset = 50 for all filters. With those settings I'm able to get 10 min exposures for all of the filters except the L filter where I'm limited to 5 min exposures.

Hi Butcher. Wow, this Heart Nebula image really rolled my socks. Excellent contrast, stars, and nebulosity colors and details in NB light. Thanks for sharing this superb capture with us Butcher, and congratulations on winning the well deserved TSS APOD Award today.
