NGC 5068

This is an emission nebula in Cygnus. It is part of the same gas cloud complex that includes NGC 7000, the North America Nebula.

8x 600s Ha, 1x1
6x 300s L, 1x1
8ea 120s RGB, 2x2

And, just for laughs, I interrupted my DSO imaging to grab a few frames of the Moon-Mars conjunction last night. Totally wrong equipment, with predictable results. It was as much an experiment in targeting without plate solving as anything. I plate-solved on a nearby star and assumed (correctly, it seems) that the mount would be able to centre on coordinates.

Hi Kathy, congrats on the APOD!

The NGC 5068 nebula is new to me. Since it belongs to the same gas cloud as the North America nebula, and considering its shape, we should maybe call it the North and South Dakota Nebula. I checked on the map and that's what it looks like most.

Also thanks for the beautiful conjunction image, we seldom see them like that.

Nice work Kathy. An interesting combination on the nebula with only Ha and Lum. Not sure I've seen that before. The central "square" portion looks a bit like a ghostly skull.

Nice framing on the conjunction image too.
