My buddies Kevin, Ryan, Dave and I distanced ourselves in separate vehicles and packed our stuff and headed out to Sandilands provincial park to take in the surprisingly cool Comet c/2020 F3 Neowise.

Its not far out of the city.. and its nice and dark! The Milky Way was very prominent before the moon poked itself up and over the eastern horizon.

This is a single image @ 336 mm (SV 70t), ISO 1600, Canon 60D, looking North and low on the horizon.

This comet has a mighty lengthy tail - well worth the wait til 2:45 am to image it. Note the pine tree, lower left.

Skysafari says: "C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) is a 8th magnitude (ed. definitely brighter!!) Comet appearing in the constellation Auriga. Its orbit is parabolic, and its closest approach to the Sun is 0.3 AU."

Superb! I was out last night too and was stressing over my Quattro 8's lack of performance and my EQ6-R's erratic tracking. Nice sky, no dew, and I knew NEOWISE would be coming up but I had expended so much emotional energy I was completely wasted by 1:15. I had a piggyback camera with the Canon 85mm EF portrait lens ready to go, but I packed up the gear, dragged my butt into the driver's seat and was home by 2:00. I was asleep by the time you were imaging. Wished I had stayed out now. Next shot at NEO is Tuesday morning given the next weather/sky window.

That's a cracking image Ian.

I'm planning on giving it a go tonight.

The comet is beautiful and your capture of it is just superb. I'm amazed at how much detail you got with just a single frame.

What was your exposure time ??? (You may have mentioned it in your post, I just couldn't see it.)

Stick with it, the comet is really incredibly brilliant. I made it home by 4;30 am, completely wasted.

I hope you get to see it, its so nice.

Sorry - that was 25 sec, single frame, 1600 ISO.

Thanks! This one was 25 seconds. Sorry I left out that detail. I have a bunch of frames, and may try stacking them this week.
