WO 66 APO on AVX with Fuji X-A2 & UHC filter

Very hard to tame the stars when using a OSC camera, but this turned out OK (using StarTools & StarNet)

Welcome back Joe! Nice to see your work again.

That's a beautiful wide FOV with lots of color and details. Nice job of controlling the stars too.

Is that a fairly new telescope or camera?

Steve
I've been using the Williams Optics 66mm for a couple of years now. I've been out of action for several reasons, mostly just really bad weather since last October.

I've been using the Fuji X-A2 for about a year. I sent my X-A1 to get modded. That was about 8 months ago. I have expereniced LOTS of problems with it. I had to send it back twice. This time they company is just going to replace the camera. Still waiting for it to make its way to Nairobi KENYA.

I really liked your image of the Veil. Its amazing how much you can do when using all those filters on a mono camera. I'd love to get one, but it's a bit too expensive for me right now. Maybe next year.

I like how you were able to bring out so much nebulosity from this target, Joe. I'm currently working on the Western Veil as my first target after a long absence from astrophotography. With an 80mm scope, modded DSLR, longer and more exposures than yours, I have not been able to achieve the kind of contrast you have between background and nebula. I'm thinking seriously about purchasing a filter to cut down some of the light pollution in the urban environment I image from. Do you feel that the UHC filter your are using helps your images? I've also seen great images with dual band filters which cut down light pollution even more. Not sure yet which way to go in terms of filters.

Hi Joe. It's great to see you back on here again. And you have an excellent Veil Nebula image here. Nice contrast and wispy nebulosity bi-color details. Thanks for sharing your latest capture with us Joe, and congratulations on winning the TSS APOD Award today.

I used an Astronomics UHC filter to cut down on the LP. Whether that's the best choice or not, I don't know. It's simply the one I happen to have, left over from my days when I used to do a lot of visual.

There's a thread in another website about all the possible DUAL BAND filters on the market today.

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/6921 ... d-filters/

The guy who has done the most research on this topic, as far as I know, is named JimThompson. Here are the results he published (I forget where I got these, but they are definitely from Thompson):

Thanks for taking the time post the VERY helpful links, Joe! I think the info in them will be helpful in deciding which is best for my particular situation. I too have a light pollution filter (IDAS LPS D1 filter) that I used to use for visual and sometimes astrophotography back when we still had sodium vapor street lights. I put it away and never used it again after we converted to LED lighting. I decided to pull it out of the drawer last night and run a sequence of images on the Veil Nebula to compare against images I took without a filter. I noticed immediately on my DSLR's live view that the sky was noticeably darker and on each individual exposure the nebula stood out more. I'll know more after I process the images.
