West Veil + Pickering's Triangle (HOO)

#1

Post by STEVE333 »

With the Oiii data captured last night it is now possible to do HOO processing for this image. I'm still new to this so please be gentle. A bit overdone maybe? Still, it's so much fun to see all the color and structure emerge. I have to say that last night was the latest night I've ever had with AP. I couldn't start imaging till about 10:20 pm, so, I knew it would be late. I finally crawled into bed at about 4am this morning. No problem sleeping.

Still learning about the SHO-AIP script and NB processing. Lots of variables to play with, but, it is quite handy for experimenting. I'm starting to see the benefits of using a pseudo Luminance image. Still using WBPP and finding it extremely helpful. After the last image was taken last night I loaded the new Oiii data into WBPP (the Ha data from a couple of nights ago was already loaded as well as the required MasterFlats and MasterDark). I hit Run and then started warming up the camera, and, went out to bring in the equipment. By the time all the equipment was in, WBPP had finished calibrating and Integrating both the Ha and Oiii images producing the Master Lights for Ha and Oiii. Pretty cool!! I went to bed knowing I had some good data.

IMAGE DETAILS:
WO Star 71 telescope, 7nm Ha, 3nm Oiii, ASI1600MM Pro camera, CEM40 mount, MMAG Autoguider
Lights: 33 x 600 sec Ha, 24 x 600 sec Oiii (Total Exposure 9 hr 30 min), Master Dark and Flat
APT, PHD2, PixInsight

ImageRepaired by STEPHEN KING, on Flickr

The starless version produced during processing is below.

Suggestions welcomed, and, thanks for looking.

Cheers,

Steve,

That is an excellent image and processing. I do like the second version better. 52 Cygni is much brighter in the second image, as are all of the other stars.Even though it is brighter, it is still very much under control and not too bright.

This version is similar to the previous one (not pushed so hard) but the treatment of the stars is much cleaner. I like this one.

Tough to choose between this and the previous soft version. On very close inspection, I went with this one because the background seems more neutral and less mottled. I really like the image and data, but I'd love to see how it looks with no mottling and a cleaner background. Irrespective of my personal tastes... it really is a lovely image, Steve.
