currently in the midst of processing 21 hours of my m8 lagoon data and got side tracked with a little image '' satellite '' while stacking .

i'm not too sure if the forum dose gifs, i'll give it a go, if not i'll link it .

The frames are 10m exposures at 1200mm fl , and it's 15 frames (about 2.5hrs total)

Well done on spotting it! I’m not sure I’m that keen eyed, as TFK says the rest of the image is really nice.

Okay, now that's cool! I've captured asteroid tracks on sequential frames before but never made a virtual video. My best capture was all of three frames. You get my APOD vote, Yobbo! 2.5 hours worth of travel! Double wow! How extraordinary.

Your GIF works perfectly. You do have a good eye. My approach of using Blink to sort through images (at high magnification to inspect star shapes) would never have caught the asteroid up in the corner of the frame. Stacking would have removed it, and, it would have been lost forever. Good catch.

Nice capture. Any time you're pointed around these areas you should pick up quite a few asteroids. Most are data-rejected out.

It is hard to tell from your image which one this is. I'm thinking your camera is oriented north to the left. If you want to post two or three exposures to an online file sharing site. I could give you a real result. Even a single image I could rotate would help. There are quite a few asteroids in this field but I think this is 55072 2001 QK89.

yes i'll upload, i'm learning how to use astrometrica , i've had some errors with it atm .

yes the frames are oriented with the dec axis left and right and the ra is north and south in the image . there is approximately 1 deg error in the camera alighment with the dec and ra axis .

edit: yes that asteroid is in that region but it is on the other end of the nebula and it moves very slowly compaired to what i have captured, i can't send a screen shot atm .

I can definitely run it through astrometrica. I have a rough time comparing the image to the field with the rotation. I also just noticed that you're in AU so I'm guessing it would also be upside down,too. Anyway, if you want to stare and compare, here's the field with asteroids down to mag 20:



The small rectangle is 2400mm and the larger is 610mm (with my cameras and scopes) so yours should be between them.

i added a dark frame for that file set on my google drive .

i did get a very inacurate astronmetric solve, it might be k17Q06E MAG 21.1

EDIT: here my solve.. i did a direct measurment and it came up with two objects

dang, it's right near angelina but that object is a bit too slow for the projectory in my image

edit: dang ! i just seen how big (64) angelina is !! it's 100 km wide !!!

ok that's enough for me. if someone finds a solution, please post, i'm going to process my mosiac of the lagoon nebula .. scientific research is too hard, time to go back to makeing pretty pictures
