North America Nebula - Reprocess 2

Thanks for the comments on the previous versions. Based on comments about the treatment of some of the smaller stars I decided to give it another try. The stars look better to me on this one. Still using the Starnet++ program in the processing.

I am seeing more overall depth in the second repro as well as a smoother image in general. The color is great and more importantly, NATURAL! very well done

Thanks Bryan - I'm still learning how/when to use the Starnet++ program. It does a wonderful job of removing stars, but, can sometimes leave slightly darker spots where the brighter stars were located. These darker spots shows up as dark halos around the brighter stars when the stars are recombined with the starless image. This time I was able to minimize this issue.
depratnt wrote: Fri Jun 14, 2019 5:40 am I am seeing more overall depth in the second repro as well as a smoother image in general. The color is great and more importantly, NATURAL! very well done
Thanks for the nice comments. The data is basically HOO data, so, getting the colors "natural" can be a challenge. On this Repro I used a stronger nonlinear stretch before removing the stars for sharpening/boosting of the starless image. When the stars were recombined with the starless image the results were much better.

Thanks Dave and Aratus - The kind words are much appreciated. I was really happy with the increased contrast/detail in this reprocess. Hope I can remember what I did!!

The smaller star clusters do look much more natural in the reprocess, Steve. :)
Quite a bit more detail in the interior clouds of the NAN as well.
Nice Job!

Yeah, duplicating a really cool effect can sometimes be a challenge... (Even with saving the project... Saving your mindset is nearly impossible.)

Thanks Jim - I'm very happy with this Repro. Glad that you and others pointed out some of the shortcomings of the earlier versions.

Your patience to do the NB mosaics is beyond me. They were beautiful. I print many of my images on metal (a company called Bay Photo does amazing work) and they look great. One of your mosaics on metal would be amazing. The largest I've printed so far is 24"x36". People love them. The largest I've sold so far is 16"x20" which costs me about $73 plus shipping (I sold it for $150 plus tax and shipping).

Saving your mindset, I like that term. Wish I could remember what it means!

By the way Jim, the colors in your avatar (NA & Pelican of course) are beautiful.
