Thor’s Helmet NGC2359

#1

Post by Benjamin »

A rare couple of summer nights allowed me a little bit of time on Thor’s Helmet (NGC 2359). Hoping to add more data but the cloud predictions suggest this might not possible for a while. 43x180s Ha, 30x180s OIII and 60x10s in each RGB channel for the stars. Taken with a ZWO ASI1600MM-Pro through an 8” Quattro Newtonian. Comments/advice always welcome. This image is a second reprocess after going down a few rabbit holes.

Really nice Ben. You controlled the stars so nicely that they don't interfere with the beautiful nebula. I especially like the close up view too.

Well done.

Amazing detail Ben. It is unfortunate that we cannot see it in such glory visually. The intricacy of the gas expansion bubbles and feathered extensions off the helmet are stunning. Then add to those the delicate wisps of nebulosity that expand across the field. Though I am a galaxy guy, this is one of my all time favorite nebulae. Excellent work Ben,
Alan
