This image shows the spiral galaxy
NGC 5054 and
NGC 5044 as well as it's associated
NGC 5044 galaxy group. Within this field are also
NGC 5017, 5031, 5035, 5037, 5038, 5046, 5047, 5049 and the nice edge on MCG-03-34-041. The group is about 120 million light years distant.
There are a few visible quasars in the field that range from 2.5 to 11.5 billion light years lookback time. Only the brighter quasars are in the image because I processed to minimize the star field so as to show the galaxies better. Unfortunately the dimmer quasars got killed. The full size view shows the brighter quasars as well as other galaxies. The annotation image shows these galaxies and quasars along with some other info on these objects.
Image and details can be accessed at the link below (or by clicking on the
NGC 5054 thumbnail crop below). The annotated image has a link below but it can also be accessed from the main image webpage as well. The full
FOV image can be accessed from the image webpage and has an image scale of 1.27 arcsec/pixel.
