Telescope Hunting
Hello All,
I have a Celestron 127 SLT scope. I want to get into deep sky viewing and astrophotography. Is the Celestron C6-S GT XLT a good scope for this. What are the recommendations.
Thanks,
Don

Re: Telescope Hunting
For starting out it looks like a reasonable place to start though there will be some needed accessories.
If just considering occasionalAP the AVX could do well for you for a very long time but if looking at doing some really long exposure imaging you will likely outgrow it quickly.
A focal reducer will be necessary to speed up imaging time and enlarge theFOV a bit as well.

Re: Telescope Hunting
I am not locked into this scope. If there is a better way to go please tell me. I want something that I can use for some time. I don't want to replace this in six months because I outgrew it. Any ideas?Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 6:50 pm For starting out it looks like a reasonable place to start though there will be some needed accessories.

Re: Telescope Hunting
You may want to look at a short focal length refractor as it will have a much wider FOV than a SC.
When looking at mounts you want a total of all your weights (telescope, camera, cabling, etc) and then choose mount that your total weight is 50-60% of total capacity.
A AVX for example 30lb capacity is about 15-17lb forAP
I would highly recommend a Vixen SXD2 or Vixen SXP2 if wanting a good trouble free mount that will last but that is just my opinion
