Thanks Mark!

Today I recieved a reworked Tasco 55 VTE from Mark. It arrived safe and sound.

Realizing the gravitas held within this package, Canada Post outdid itself, with a record run from Toronto-Winnipeg, exceeding the dog sled records set by Roald Amunden in 1903. :)

Image

It fits my finder rings nicely!

Image

I swapped a focuser wheel from another scope - a smaller 40 mm Towa.

Image

Et voila.

Image

I also trimmed the shim on the inside tube as it was binding a wee bit. Now the focuser is buttery smooth and ready to find.

Behold the 60 mm finder - Mark Mk. I - and it will be paired with a suitably sensitive finder camera. :)

Image

I hope you don't mind the tweaks Mark. Thanks for reading to the bottom!

Ian, so glad you got it! Yup, Canada Post outdid themselves on this one for sure! I was informed the earliest you would get it was next Monday...

I wondered about that "shim" I put in; I did that just before I sent it, as the original was 4 years old and sloppy :D Nice one on the aluminum focuser wheel! I would have put one on it, but they're all used up here...

As for the "paint job" you and Gabby are curious about, I did that with something I made for painting that specific part. A bicycle hub that I welded some random parts to make a sort of "flywheel", so that I could hook it to the ceiling of my shed to spin said tube to paint it evenly. There's still some strings that I used to tie up the tube for painting on there...:

flywheel.png

What happened was the paint can was a bit clogged, so the pint came out in spurts. It was late, dark, and I figured tomorrow would be a better day. Then I looked at at it the next morning, and it looked like a smattering of stars, kind of like the center of the galaxy. And so it was :D

Happy it got there and hope it all works out. Un bonne première lumière, mon ami!!
