Congrats on getting the new scope. Be sure to post a first-light report on your first session with it.

Good Choice - the 203 will be much easier to move around.
You've got the binoculars, they will be a great help. One suggestion
from my experience - The scope you are ordering has a straight through finder.
They can be difficult & uncomfortable to use, especially for a beginner. If there
is room in the budget get a RACI (right angle correct image) or reflex sight to replace
it. With the RACI your head is in a more comfortable spot while star hopping and everthingy
moves naturally - the reflex provides a great way to get to a jumping off point when starting
your search for an object. A lot of dob drivers actually have both mounted on their scopes.

Best of luck & enjoy the views!

As there was an incredible discount when I bought the 8" DOB, I also decided to buy this telescope: https://www.astroshop.es/telescopios/na ... az/p,62376 because it had some good eyepieces, a solar filter and a phone holder. The optic tube is not that big, but it is a much better starter.

For now, I'm going to leave the 8" DOB in the garage.

All the best,

I had an 8 inch dob for years and loved it. Great first scope. Eventually built a 12 inch truss, but I do miss the simplicity of the 8 inch scope. One other addition I might suggest is adding a Telrad or "bullseye" type finder to your scope. It makes star hopping much easier when you're getting started.
