DIY camera lens to telescope adapter (rear lens dust cover and 1.25 eyepiece holder

I made one of these and can't believe how well it works! you may need to loosen the eyepiece out a little ways from the holder depending on the model of camera lens and type of lens it is.

the image it gives is incredibly crisp and sharp as can be. right up to the diffraction limit of the lens (10mm seems to be about ideal to take full advantage of F3.5 to F5.6 range) if the lens is faster/bigger aperture you can use higher magnification and get even more out of it.

You can use something like a binocular-holder to attach it to a tripod. or something. if you have a lens to 1/4 holder adapter that would also work.

This works great with zoom lenses. giving you excellent magnification ranges. even better with parfocal zoom lenses.

All I did was make a hole in an lens rear dust cover for the eyepiece to slip through. superglue a 1.25 eyepiece holder ring to it. and screw it onto the lens and slot the eyepiece in. and it just works :D

the only one I can find costs over 150$ on amazon. and you cant interchange the eyepiece either.
This could be made for so cheap. a few bucks!
heres a few photos of what I made

its so simple but works so well

I should be calling it more like a telescope eyepiece to camera lens adapter

Convert a camera lens into a telescope.

Very clever.

As I recall, many years ago Nikon made something like that for use with its 500mm mirror lens. I see some of those 500mm f/8 lenses on Ebay for in the $100 to $200 range. Might be a fun thing to have.

Yeah 10mm gives the most useful magnification (depending on how fast or slow the lens is)
For a slower lens you can use a lower power eyepiece for a brighter image with the best visual quality.
and a faster lens you can use a higher power eyepiece for more magnification.
