3D printed Pikon Telescope

Post by Harshil »

A Pi-controlled Newton reflector with 3D printing, Interesting DIY project.

If you fancy 3D printing and building your very own telescope you may be interested in a new project created by Mika Yeap which combines 3D printed parts, a telescope tube and the Raspberry Pi mini PC.

Anyone here like to try this :D :D ?

I am not very familiar with the raspberry PI but this is a interesting development, I had no idea they had a camera of sorts.

I wonder about the central obstruction though, those spider veins look pretty thick and then there is still the camera.

Thanks for the link.
Eyeballs, binoculars, sketch box, Scopes n stuff.

Very interesting scope Harshil. I'll bet more folks are going to start printing out scopes.

You can also use the pi cam as a regular webcam like camera, in the focuser of a regular telescope and be able to use the scope for visual too. People have been using the pi cam as a guide cam too.
picam.jpg
The problem with the pi cam is tiny pixels (1.12 um) and max exposure of 6s which makes it suitable only for the moon. However one could think of using a better camera board instead of the pi cam and sneak out an USB cable through the spider vanes.

I'm not too sure if we are getting to the stage or have already gotten to it; where the serious DIYer needs a 3D printer in their work area.
