I made sure to take images and I'll post some tonight when I get back home. Thanks!

I have just sent an email to the place for coating to get a timeline and better quote.

the front panel has been removed, the six screws placed in order of position. Tentative feelings about removing the corrector.

fortunately there was no movement from the wedges and they still remain in place.
Here the corrector plate is out, coming easily with gentle pressure. This may be because a prior owner had opened up the scope? I can't say though.
Checked the secondary and it has a little dust but otherwise in good shape.

these three images are simply showing placement of parts groupings; mirror lock, focuser housing and focus thread(?)

I must state that in removing the mirror, there were no points of difficulty and whilst I would have preferred to make a video, batteries sometimes need recharging on cameras. Perhaps a video of the replacement - but then I would have to edit the language when things are bound to be 'challenging'. :)

As of now, each of the parts groupings are bagged and sealed. The mirror is wrapped securely in large bubble wrap and will be transported in a metal box with further bubble wrap to cushion the gentle ministrations of australia post. ;)

More on the mirror's return and putting things back together.... (memories though of taking a clock apart when a child and always having parts left over... hmm, this does not bode well. ) :)

I forgot to mention in the above images of the front of the tube, you should be able to see the slots or spaces where the mirror can be passed through the rim - one has to turn the mirror roughly 90 degrees to gently bring it through.

Another thing is that when removing the threaded focus rod, make sure that it is centred on the small cross bar inside the tube otherwise the rod can't be pulled through the hole.

a quick update, last night I receive an email confirming use of gold for a coating and do we formalise this with a quote. If he gets back to me toiday (Sunday), then it can be sent Monday. But first, removal, of the secondary. More images to follow.

ok, so here we are Sunday morning and removing the secondary so that it can be sent on Monday. Another very simple exercise, the only thing to make sure of is marking the positions of the corrector and parts as they are dismantled. First, setting up

next, having removed the three screws, whilst holding the corrector on a slight angle and resting on large bubblewrap, the secondary holder is removed from the corrector plate.

again making sure that the marks are present for re-attachment. I did find howevere that someone had already had the mirror out and had marked all three points! I placed a mark under the mirror base continuing one of the lines.

then, finally removing the base from the mirror, again ensuring marks are made for orientation purposes.

now everything is bagged and the mirrors have been placed in the container ready for sending - just awaiting final confirmation. Apparently they will be done by around the end of July. I'm glad I started this now. ;)
