Re: new lathe project
I did a drawing, took a while haha. you might want to check your own male adapters to suit fit for play, should be able to get down in the threads with very pointy calipers, attached a pdf as well, you will need to cut out a foam ring for that 6mmx1.8mm recess to shield from stray light.

Re: new lathe project
The recessed groove starts from 6.27 mm from the outside edge the adapter .
The threads root is 41.26 mm on my 42mm male adapters i have which should give you 0.14 mm clearance on the t ring threads valleys when screwed into the t ring so it doesn't bind, you can just machine your own tolerance to fit.
you'll just need some short and long 3mm computer thumb screws or whatever size you like.

Re: new lathe project
bore and threaded the second half and machined down the od. a little trick to work around those larger parts on small chucks or anything without a whole lot of material to clamp down in the chuck, just put in a m42 adapter and screw it in lightly, the load will hold it in.
this method was a lot quicker,it took me 20 mins to turn down unlike the first adapters facing method shown in the first post.

Re: new lathe project
What lathe are you using?
I've been puttering around with a Grizzly G0602 10x22 now for a few weeks and love it. (No DRO's on my machine yet, though...)
https://www.grizzly.com/products/Grizzl ... athe/G0602
I'm looking into the upgrades for it and studying YouTube channels for tips.
I have a small scale model of a scope and mount I'm working on... I'll put up a pic or two when i get home from work today.
Very nice job on the tilt ring!
I need to get some material for that project.
Cheers!

Re: new lathe project
This is the lathe I have, opti is the brand name, I think it's made in Taiwan and may be a German company , it's an alright cheap lathe, does left and right hand thread, metric and imperial, no auto crossfeed. I think it's about the same size as yours.JimMinCT wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2019 11:43 am What lathe are you using?

Re: new lathe project
Oh wow See this is why I joined this forum.
Hi everyone! I'm new here and these are just great reads.
My family has owned a lathe for years now from SummitMT https://www.summitmt.com/. We have the 14x40 manual lathe.
When I was a kid my dad and I would usually spend an entire afternoon just tinkering in our shed.
And last year I started doing my own projects with ideas I got from this site - https://www.summitmt.com/metal-lathe-projects/ and also some from youtube videos.
I actually tried doing the ring and well it came out alright.
But seeing this and knowing that I can also do parts of a scope from the equipment I have is amazing!
I'll have to try this one for myself and share photos with everyone.
Thanks guys.

Re: new lathe project
Ok, so not a metal lathe but it's probably the only way I can have anything similar.
I got to use just such a device many years ago (no, I am not that old!) and enjoyed using it and with some success.
The immediacy, tactile and visual feedback of the process was astonishing and very fulfilling.
I made a stool leg in minutes.
Just wait until the lights go out!

Very nice work with the lathe! My experience with lathes amounts to making a clock out of a slab of redwood back in Middle School wood shop, e.g. very limited.
