Last night I had the opportunity, through cloud breaks, to observe the Moon's approach past Saturn. The only optical instrument I used was my pair of Bushnell 10X50 binos. At 0112 this morning I got to view Saturn close to within 34' (yes, 34 minutes), just slightly more than one lunar diameter, to the moon. Visually Saturn was so close to the moon that the moon's glare did a really good of hiding the ringed giant. It was a fascinating view throughout the evening as the moon started out west of the Saturn and by 0300 was east of Saturn.
It was a fun time with just a simple pair of binos.

Hi JT, good for you on seeing that. I caught it for a while, but they were still 2+ degrees apart when they "set" for me. From your location, they were probably more or less rising, and finished off the show.
