Verdict: My Warm Room is Warm

Last winter was chilly. Who am I kidding? Last winter was cold! I decided to insulate my warm room (a.k.a. small garden shed) this summer. I added insulation, bead board walls, and sealed over the top lofts. Last night's eclipse was my trial run. The coldest night I used it last year was 24 F. I had to run my heater on high. I dressed in layers and topped them all off with a snowmobile suit and parka. Last night was 21 F (-6 C). I didn't need the snowmobile suit at all and only wore the parka in the observatory. I kept the heat on medium. To add the icing on the cake I also replaced the old sleeping cot with a solid mattress and bunk beds. I even managed to come away with a few shots of the eclipse.

I had frost on the scope in the open field last night, but I was bundled as you have done on the past.

Despite how cosy you sounded there Rob I am surprised you managed to do any observation at all. Your own special 'man-cave' to hide away and relax :lol:

I'm about 3 miles from my house and the edge of town. It is sort of a man cave, lol. I have books, cameras, a drone, all the necessities of life out there.
I don't need a fridge because I stock it with dry food. I have a cell phone to watch TV on.

Very interesting report Rob - congrats on the man cave, sounds like a great place for astronomy. An observatory certainly is a good thing to have both for visual and AP. Congrats on the VROD for your somewhat unique report...
