α Geminorum nebula!

#1

Post by pakarinen »

Woke up about 0500 so I grabbed the ST80 for a look at M41. Clouds started rolling in to the south so I switched over to M44. After counting stars in the Hive for a bit, I decided to try a quick look at M35.

As I was repositioning the scope to Gemini, I happened on Castor. And today there was nebulosity, almost like the Pleiades, clearly visible!
In my rush to get outside, I had neglected to put a heat pack on the scope. :doh:

Thus endeth the session...
=============================================================================
I drink tea, I read books, I look at stars when I'm not cursing clouds. It's what I do.

It's no use to try observing here these days: the snorkel always gets in the way. :lol:

The only known nebulae in the Castor-Pollux area are the Mel Bartels interstellar matter nebulae.
They can be seen on this map https://www.bbastrodesigns.com/drawings ... artels.jpg

As this both nebulae are not included in the catalogs of HII and of molecular clouds, they may belong to the high galactic lattitude cirrus (IFN).

Clear skies,

Had a brief bino session last night. I was able to view M31 and M33, fortunately the trees were blocking the moonlight.
