Last evening, using my 6" f/8 apo, I observed the following, among others:

Sigma Scorpii m 2.9, 8.4, sep 20.5" PA 269 deg (west). Well seen at 61x using an ES 20mm 68 deg eyepiece. It is uncertain if this pair is physical or not.

Beta Scorpii AC m 2.6, 4.5, sep 13.4" at PA 20 degrees. Well seen at 61x, but 135x (9mm Delite ep) brings out the colors as white and bluish. This is an optical double (not physical).

Eta Lyrae m 4.4, 8.6, sep 28.4" at PA 81 deg. Well seen at 61x, nice magnitude contrast. This double is optical also.

With the smoke here, diffuse and / or faint objects are no bueno, so doubles are definitely worth a look.

Hi John. A very fine observing report on the nice doubles in Scorpius and Lyra. And you did a nice job with your descriptions including the position angles. Thanks for your report John, and congratulations on winning the TSS VROD Award today.
