Transient in Vulpecula -- BAA Alert
[BAA Alert] Transient in Vulpecula
Jeremy Shears 2:02 AM (5 hours ago)
A 12th mag transient object was reported in Vul yesterday (July 16).
Further details about this unfolding story are on the BAA Forum:
https://britastro.org/node/26097
It appears to be 9 mags brighter than before.
Nick James imaged the field at dusk on July 16 and his image is shown on the Forum. Gary Poyner observed it visually at mag 12.0 on Jul 16.948.
A low resolution spectrum by Robin Leadbeater revealed a P Cygni profile suggestive of a nova. Strong H emission lines were also reported by Mike Harlow.
Additional info will be posted on the Forum.
Follow up observations are requested.

I joined the BAA as a result of a conversation here between Greenman and KathyNS.

I recommend it highly to all. It is an open professional society.
Best Regards (and Clear Skies),
