July's target

#1

Post by AstroBee »

Well, the weather forecast for tomorrow (Monday 7/5) and Tuesday night are both looking good for imaging. Myself and a few buddies are headed to a dark sky location that should be a Bortle 2, maybe 3 location about 2 hours north of Vegas.
My plan this month is to try and get both Eastern and Western Veil in the same frame. I might be pushing it with my rig at 336mm fl and what with the dithering but here's the framing I'm going for.

I'm hoping to get at least 15 minutes of Lum, 30 minutes of RGB each and then start the Ha and OIII capture. If we do end up with two good nights, I should capture at least 2 hours of both narrowband filters. Anyone with experience on this target tell me if it's worth bothering with SII.

I don't have an answer about the SII, but... I have been planning a mosaic of this area for the summer. If you rotate the frame so the Eastern and Western Veils are parallel to the short sides of the frame, you may be able to capture more of the central sections. Definitely an interesting target, good luck with it!
