First View: Great Red Spot

Viewing Jupiter this morning from 0400 to 0530 local time, I saw the Great Red Spot for the first time. I thought that it was the shadow of Io. When I came in the house to check the positions of Jupiter's moons with the Sky & Telescope webpage I found that this was not possible. So, I checked the Great Red Spot and, indeed, it was near the meridian at that time.

Through the course of the morning, I was viewing with my ES 102-mm with a Stellarvue correcting prism with focusser and a range of oculars,with and without 2x Barlow, but also with my 70mm and a 17-mm-Barlow combination.
