A few doubles in Orion

#1

Post by John Fitzgerald »

Here are the best three doubles I observed last night (2/22/21) in poor to moderate (and variable) seeing with my 6" f/8 apo.

The temperature started at about 50F and dropped to 36F by the end of the session.

STF 652 m 6.3, 7.4, sep 1.7" at PA 180 deg. Observed this medium-close one at 173x with a 7mm TV Delite eyepiece.

STF 654 (Rho Ori) m 4.6, 8.5, sep 6.4" at PA 65 deg. Very nice contrast between components at 135x with a 9mm Delite.

STF 664 m 7.8, 8.4, sep 4.8" at PA 177 deg. Very nice view at 135x with the 9mm Delite.
Double and multiple star observer. Over 3,500 unique pairs logged.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Hello John. This is nice work splitting these doubles with the 6" f/8 apo scope. And, I am sure the cold temperatures didn't help any. Thanks for your nice report John, and the best of wishes for better weather and skies.
