4 Vesta
I've been out visual observing the last two nights and while pre-scanning the skies tonight at about 2130 for later telescope targets I came upon the asteroid 4 Vesta, with my 10 x 50 binoculars no less. I had not thought to look for asteroids before given my limitations so I was pleased to able to see Vesta in my Bortle 8 skies.
If you're interested in seeing this easy to catch asteroid for yourself it is presently reported as a magnitude 6.21 and about 1.4AU from Earth. It is presently in the tail end of Leo in between Denebola and Chertan. Tonight it formed a right triangle with the stars 85 Leo and 88 Leo A and is at RA /DE 11h29m18s/+14°23'52". Sunday the "triangle" will be stretched a bit.

Thanks for the report! I can look for that from my covered back porch I think. As the snow melts, the back yard itself is mush. I have not tried for asteroids, but have been thinking about it. This should be a good one to start.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a rare winter clear night, and I was looking for non-fuzzy objects to image in the moonlight. Vesta is on the list for tonight.

Congrats on your first asteroid! Actually, asteroids stand to light pollution quite well. Every night there are a few within the reach of 100mm scope. I use SkySafari app on my phone to hunt them. It reports apparent magnitude and positions of asteroids quite accurately.
