Short session tonight, collimated on Polaris using Bob’s knobs. Complete and simple in 10 minutes (and no WD40 was expelled at all). Quick look at Jupiter which popped out really nicely, so clear and stable that I tried the x3 Barlow on a 25mm eyepiece, the view with a 4500mm focal length was surprisingly good.
Right thought I, roll on Mars - I’m going to have a crack at imaging with x3 x-cell later, and I went inside for a coffee and a chat with Sue. Oddly she was not fascinated by my excitement over fast collimation. She did mention In passing that at £7 a screw, they should work. At least I think that was the gist of it, as I had some imaginary fluff in my ears.
Of course the sky gods had picked up on my keenness, and scattered low clouds skeetering over Mars. I waited 20 minutes and then broke the scope down. Still I can’t complain, another fundamental incorporated into my experience bank. As it turns out SCT’s are easy to collimate.
