Brett's Carbon Star Hunt - Returning October 2020

Returning this October will be "Brett's Carbon Star Hunt".

Each month, hopefully around the first of the month, I will post 3 Carbon Star targets. Hopefully they will be in the range for most telescopes, as they are variable stars. I will also try to keep it "fair" to those south of the equator, trying to get at least 2 of them that *should* be visible there.

Everyone is free to use however means they want to find them - GoTo, PushTo (I will likely be using this option!), star charts, star-hopping - as the only point to this is to get out there and observe! And well, observe some potentially breathtaking objects in the process. Seriously - I've gasped a couple of times at the carbons! No points, no medals - just observe!

Cool - glad to see folks looking forward to it.

I promise to do my best to keep it going this time - even through the bone-chilling dead of winter!

I have Octobers targets all lined up and ready to go. Novembers are in the process of selection now.

All targets are going to come from the Astro League's 100 for their Carbon Star award. At least until it runs dry.

I thought about how to report for my records and to relate here. I’m not reporting to AVSSO. Matching up charts? Meh.
My scale is: “Wow that’s-
Very dim
Dimmer
Dim
Same as most
Bright
Brighter
Very bright
.”
I’m also thing I might sketch what’s in the eyepiece for future reference- not to worry - I won’t post those.

Here goes:
-UU Auriga 06 hr 36 m / + 38.26, orange, very bright. Brightest in the lense.
-RU Aquarius 23 hr 43m/ -15.17, dim, reddish whitish (pink?)
