Re: NEOWISE and Booties galaxies
Fine report and pics Andrey! Congratulations on your 2,000th DSO . I’m definitely impressed. I still have a few to go to finish up the H2 and H3 lists. I got tired of looking for faint fuzzies and went back to some beautiful Messiers for a few months. Now I’m back on the Herschels and determined to complete the lists.

Re: NEOWISE and Booties galaxies
As usual I enjoyed your report, especially concerning the flora and fauna. (A favored topic for me as you may recall. Nice tarantula pics!)
A few miles south of your site, in Ranchita, the bee population at my favored site has been pestering me for water. They’re more frequent and abundant visitors than the flies! Left to themselves they land on skin and forage. I think the lack of dew over the last few weeks has made it tough for them. They turn in by 8PM, but they’re up and at it at 5AM--thankfully they haven’t been aggressive. Up in Joshua Tree they’ve shut down some camping areas due to bees more aggressively seeking water.

Re: NEOWISE and Booties galaxies
Well done Andrey, glad you got to spot the current comet sensation, and very well done on reaching your 2,000th DSO observed.
I have been doing some observing but not religiously filing reports myself. This year I've had 16 sessions with a total of 515 new objects into the log (mostly galaxies). As I've mentioned I didn't keep a log for a few decades, but since I've started to do so over the last few years I have now surpassed the 3,300 mark (this past weekend). At least now I have a better sense of where I've been!

As you, I have been observing on and off since I was a kid, but never kept systematic logs. When I got back to observing in 2015 (thanks to my daughter) she has insisted on keeping the logs. It did not take long to see the benefits. Thus, 2,000

Re: NEOWISE and Booties galaxies
Thank you Andrey. Yeah, I am still around, but just haven't been on here too much for a while. The last report I filed was for 13 May, but I've observed eight times since then from the dark site house. I just didn't file any reports for those sessions. I have the notes of course, just never got around to putting anything on here about them.Bigzmey wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 10:18 pmThanks Alan! I wondered where did you go. Glad to hear that you keep observing.kt4hx wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 8:15 pm Well done Andrey, glad you got to spot the current comet sensation, and very well done on reaching your 2,000th DSO observed.
Thus, 2,000DSOs , 1,300 binaries and the rest of my tallies are since 2015.
Well that is good that you had a motivator to sort of point you in the right direction. I do deeply regret that I didn't keep track of the thousands of objects I observed over the previous decades. For reasons truly unknown to me, I simply never thought about a log way back then - sadly. That is why I encourage all to do so, because I lost a part of my history that I cannot recover. Of course some objects I remember, but the majority are lost to the ravages of time and fading memory.
Alan

Outstanding story, always like your reports Andrey.
Not sure how I would respond if I saw a spider of that size.
The biggest ones we have here are less than thumbtack sized.
Thanks!!

Thanks Ian! The spiders make you a bit jumpy, but they mind their own business for the most parts.Kanadalainen wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 2:10 am Outstanding story, always like your reports Andrey.
