I then went for Brett's Carbon star target S Scuti which I would estimate as somewhere around 10th magnitude, but I did observe it and noted the strong coloration.
Scorpius was next, and I wanted to see M4 in the general vicinity of Antares. It was resolved at the edges, with the ten inch I usually achieve full resolution. One of the tougher tests is the globular cluster
Still hot outside, I went in for a glass of lemonade which I took outside and set on my observing table. In Sagittarius the Lagoon was still visible with hints of nebulosity. I could not make out any nebulosity in the Trifid but had a decent view of M17 the Swan or Checkmark nebula, which punched through the light pollution. After about an hour outside I ended the session. Fortunately, the heat broke this morning around 6am as the fog advanced and dropped the temperature to 56 degrees F. from the high eighties it had been during the session. Since the house has no air conditioning the last couple of days have been uncomfortably warm with smoke from the Caldor fire burning to the West of Lake Tahoe.
As we now are in the waning days of Summer or the Dog Days, feel free to post your observing reports! With that, I should say that I am looking forward to Galaxy Season.
Cheers All.
