Anticipating a clear night I put this together this afternoon. I have been thinking of trying this for some time.

I mounted my ES80 on my Oberwerks tripod. It works very well.

Now I hope the sky stays open. :-)

I'm telling you, brother, we need to try camo netting and Ghillie suits! That's the only thing I can think of to keep us from being spotted!

I hope you get a chance for some views soon. The weird weather persists here as well. Other than three straight nights/mornings of observing in mid-April I've been shut out. Alaskan storms they say.

I have had one outing with this rig. And it worked quite well.
The other two short sessions I have had were with binoculars.
I am now thinking of mounting my SW100 Evostar on this tripod mount. It is quit a bit longer but I think I can get it to balance.
We shall see. :-)
We just had a micro burst of torrential rain and hail, 5 furious minutes. Now the sun is shining. Transparency later is supposed to be very bad. Oh well. :sigh:
Or...I may rig up and go out anyway...

Yes he has a a very short run with it, but after that we were limited to binoculars. We will have a month more together so I expect him to have more opportunities.

Nice setup, Don! Similar, but probably higher quality over all to my Meade Infinity 80...same diameter and focal length as your ES80. Mine turned out to be a really fun scope and the one I did the Messier list with from my Bortle 6 back yard. I think you and the young man in the picture with you can have a lot of adventures with that rig!

I bought a Meade Adventure 80mm Clone (Clown?) for $90 on Amazon. I almost prefer using that to my ST120.

I have the same. Tripod it came with is useless, but the scope is identical to the Orion ST except the paint. I use it for my solar projection setup.
