Made for the Novosibirsk City Planetarium, to the customers specs, including electric focuser and ocular turret and five eyepieces.

Two OTA's were made.
The mount shown was just there to hold the OTA. A larger one was still being made.

OTA weight - 30kg
Mount weight - 48kg (not incl 20kg of counterweights)
TAL-200A apochromatic (D200mm, F = 1800mm)
Cost in 2012 was 320,388.00 Rubles

Wow.
Such a beautiful piece of kit !
It is only a little taller than I am.
I think it might even be taller than Bryan !
If I was not on a travel ban I would join you Gabby ! 😊

Wow!

That would be a fun OTA to own. That's a lot of Rubles!

Apparently in 2012 when the images were taken it was slightly under 7000GBP.
It would be interesting to find out where the second refractor is :)

It was about $10,000 USD at that time.

But the Rubles amount given equates to $5475 in today's dollars. If that is true, what a bargain.

Since inflation is quite high in Russia, the prices for goods and services change quite often. It was ~$10,000 equivalent in 2012 and it would be now (or likely even higher since USD is also weaker now than in 2012).

A couple more TAL refractors from another event in 2012 that unfortunately did not make it to production.

A 100mm f/7.5 apochromatic

A 75mm f/6 ED doublet

Telescope production was shut down soon after this according to a TAL group member. :(

Thanks Gabby! But this is cruel punishment! I'm in a race between cash flow, family commitments, and the limited time availability of the SV120 ED Access. :) If I lose that race... well I always have plan B, C, D, etc... ;)

Hopefully Plan A works out for you, though it is nice to have solid Plan B, C, and D as well :)
