Binoculars Optics Question

#1

Post by Refractordude »

Just took a quick peek at Albireo after work with my 7x50 binoculars. Why is it that my 7 magnification binoculars can split Albireo wider than my 120mm f8 refractor can at 31.25 magnification?

Even the Double I, and II are split wider when looking at them with 7 magnification binoculars. Come in now, someone has to have an answer for this. Right click the image.

You can split Albireo with 7x50, but it is a touching split. No way binos will show you double stars wider apart than frac at 30x.

There has to be some sort of confusion. You might be mistaking a field star for the component of double.
Scopes: Stellarvue: SV102ED; Celestron: 9.25" EdgeHD, 8" SCT, 150ST, Onyx 80ED; iOptron: Hankmeister 6" Mak; SW: 7" Mak; Meade: 80ST.

I will be out late this night with both binoculars on a mount, and my 120mm refractor for another try. Another thing I notice about binoculars is objects seem to be bigger/wider.

Clouds cleared up. Yeah not possible. I will have to do an earlier session for Albireo when it will be lower, and the planets around this time. In fact I recall observing Albireo with my sold Oberwerk LW 15x70, and it was no way that a wide split. Still waiting to hear from Celestron about a replacement for my nonfunctional 20x80 binoculars.
